Manchester City are back with a bang in the UEFA Women's Champions League group stage when reigning champions Barcelona head to the Joie Stadium. City have consigned their recent qualification woes in this tournament to the past, and are back in the main draw for the first time since the 2020/21 campaign. Manchester City begin the 2024/25 UEFA Women's Champions League group stage by hosting reigning champions Barcelona, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
City will be competing in the main draw of the competition for the first time since the 2020/21 season when they reached the quarter-finals, where they were coincidentally beaten 4-2 by Barcelona.
Gareth Taylor's side secured their place in the group stage following an 8-0 aggregate victory over Paris FC, and have been placed in a group alongside Barcelona, SKN St. Polten and Hammarby IF.They head into the competition following some fine form domestically, and sit top of the Women’s Super League with seven points from their opening three games.
The Blaugrana won last season's competition following a 2-0 win over Lyon, with Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas on target.
Pere Romeu is the team's new head coach after taking over from Jonatan Giraldez, and will be looking to continue the side's recent dominance in the competition after winning it three times in the last four seasons.
